About

So this is the page where I tell you about me. I suppose since you’ve come to this page specifically, you actually want to know at least something about me. Maybe it’s to see if I’m a nut or normal (whatever that is)… well here goes and you can decide.
Titles & Hats

Everyone has multiple titles (or wears different hats… whichever metaphor you prefer). Some call me Son, others Dad, and one beautiful woman calls me Husband (well that’s not the term I hear most often…). I live in a house with three children 5 and under, which means that I have (hopefully) wisdom, maturity, and determination to accomplish anything but feel like doing absolutely nothing (if you have young children you understand). Kidding aside, my kids are great, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
Don’t Quit Your Day Job
By day I masquerade as a computer software developer. I’m a certified FileMaker 11 Developer (which means I can pass a test) working for Cleveland Consulting, Inc. (specializing in custom FileMaker development). I also do PHP/Mysql development quite often, a fair amount of XHTML/CSS/JavaScript, and also work in JAVA building more functionality for our systems. My past work has brought me into contact with MS SQL, .NET, C, C++, and a whole bunch of other things. If all that sounds like a bunch of gobbly-gook to you, then I’ll sum it up by saying that my job is to make our client’s computer do what they want it to do. I enjoy computer work because it reminds me a little bit of when I was a child and could build anything I wanted out of Legos. Well my Lego blocks look a little different, but basically at work I’m just a kid building a big spaceship complete with gun turrets, radar detecting devices, and blinking lights.
That’s Deep

In all other things I like to think and discuss deep topics. I got my MDiv degree from Winebrenner Theological Seminary in 2009 (which means I can pass a class) and am currently doing a whole lot of reading. I read the classics, philosophy, history, and theology mainly, but I enjoy a good novel (say Dickens, Dostoyevsky, etc). I like to discuss these heavy topics (and hopefully some of that here), but I also try to keep things light and humorous, you got to have some sort of sense of humor or you’ll go crazy.

It is refreshing to discover you while I was ‘googling’ the subject of myth, literature and scripture. I am a retired Episcopal priest, now living in Maine. In seminary I sudied Bultmann’ demythology and the neo-orthodox reaction. After doctoral sudies at Harvard (no, I did not complete a ThD), my careeer was in parish ministry. C. S. Lewis was of great importance in my spiritual formation–and still is, along with Marcus Borg, Kathleen Norris, Walter Brueggemann, Fred Buechner and Joan Chittester. Keep thinking and writing. Bob P.

Thanks Bob for stopping by and leaving a nice encouraging note. I’m trying to find all the time I can to keep reading, studying, and writing. With four young kids, that can be quite a challenge!! Many of the authors you mention have challenged my thinking. I’m glad that we have their works to broaden the community in which we explore ideas and practices. Thanks again for dropping by!
