Losing Your Drawers!

September 26, 2006 (7:52 am) by Erin

My childs pants are too big!!! What to do?! He is such a little tike his pants won’t stay on without major pinning and even then sometimes that doesn’t even help! hehe. 12 month pants are too short so he looks like he’s wearing capris (not so cool for a boy) and 18 month pants are just huge on him! Mind you, he’s 19 months. Ah the dilemas of a child and his mother. :)

Quick Note

Just thought i’d mention this - Kevin started seminary at the end of August, so needless to say its taken alot of his time! If you want to see how things are going at Seminary you can check out his other blog Words where he has decided to post thoughts, experiences, and readings from Seminary. Pray for Erin! :)

Welcome to the Neighborhood… Finally

September 23, 2006 (1:39 pm) by Erin

Well, we serve a pretty amazing God! Kevin and I have been dreading going over to our “challenging neighbors” house all week, but we really felt like we needed to go over and properly introduce ourselves after the “dog fiasco” earlier this week. We figured, if we are going to be neighbors with these people we need to at least try to make an effort to be good neighbors even if we’ve been wronged.

So we sucked it up, said a prayer and set out on our journey to “start over”. The wife answered the door and as Kevin introduced oursleves and gave the reason for us coming over you could see her defenses go down and she eventually invited us in. Christ was obviously being seen through him. We apologized for our dog and explained the circumstances and we ended up having a great conversation. She thanked us for coming over and even apologized for her husband being so rough about it all. What a relief!

As we continued our walk around the neighborhood another family came out of their house… “are you our new neighbors?” they yelled. Their whole family came out and introduced themselves and gave us a few insights on the neighborhood and even said the only “mean” person was the “grumpy old man” living behind us. :) Sounds like he’s quite a character.

What a blessing our walk turned out to be! And what a great reminder of when we act in obedience, God shows himself to us in amazing ways. :)

Challenging Neighbors

September 19, 2006 (11:33 am) by Erin

Well I met our first neighbors this morning… I was greeted by a grumpy old man pointing a finger in my face telling me to keep my dog quiet or he would call the police. How nice. I was just talking to Kevin the other day telling him how I thought it was kind of disappointing that we hadn’t met any of our neighbors yet, that noone had come over to say hello or anything. Well, I wasn’t expecting my first encounter with anyone in the neighborhood to be quite like it was this morning. :( All I could think of while this man was yelling at me, telling me to control my dog and explaining to me how POed he was, was “is this really happening? Is this really the first ‘welcome to the neighborhood’ we get?, Is he really yelling at me?” All I could muster up to say to the guy was “it was nice to meet you” and all I got for that was a hand waved in my face in disgust resulting in him walking away. Wow. I was and still am in shock, mad, upset, you name it. Everytime I think of the guy I cry or want to throw up. Nothing like adding this to my list of overwhelming moments for the week. Nothing like being pregnant and emotional anyway. Nothing like trying to get rid of the cause of my stress in the first place (the dog) only to have someone rub it in my face even more!

But now what? Now we have this neighbor hanging over our heads, now we have this issue to deal with and an “opportunity” to be Christ to our neighbor who was a big jerk to us. How do you confront someone in love who just confronted you in a big jerky way??? How do you make a mense with a neighbor who lives right behind you so everytime you look out your back door you’re not ticked off at them when you don’t even really know them.

Ugh… the issues of challenging neighbors!
