Summertime, Worms and Poison Ivy!

May 25, 2007 (1:31 pm) by Erin

Even though Summer is not OFFICIALLY here, it sure feels like it.  It’s been in the 90’s everyday this week!  Ethan’s had fun playing in the sprinkler with friends, eating popcicles and finding worms… And for me…. we’ll I’ve managed to locate all the poision ivy in our back yard! :(  I’ve had it for 2 weeks now, all over my arms, legs and stomach…. I guess I was wrestling with it when I was pulling vines out of some trees.  Ugh!  I haven’t had poison ivy since I was a kid… it’s torture!  Good news though, Ethan hasn’t gotten yet and hopefully won’t as I’ve sprayed pretty much everything in our back yard with Round up! :)

Cereal

 (1:21 pm) by Erin

We decided it was time for Lucas to start eating solids in hopes he would sleep better at night.  But getting him to eat from a spoon is taking longer than hoped… we’ve been at it for almost 2 weeks.  He’s not crazy about the whole cereal thing so for most feedings there’s more on his bib then in his belly.  Any suggestions on when to feed him (in relation to nursing) or how to get him used to cereal is more than welcome.

Here’s the little munchkin during his daily dose of solids. :)

Happy Mother’s Day

May 16, 2007 (3:35 pm) by Erin

I had a great Mother’s Day on Sunday! The boys got me some beautiful Tiger Lily’s (via Kevin).  After church we went out to eat and then I took a nice afternoon nap…. that doesn’t happen much anymore.  And all day Ethan was practicing saying “mother’s day” to me. :)

Trip to DC

May 14, 2007 (1:32 pm) by Erin

We just got back from an amazing vacation with some great friends!  My best friend from H.S. and her family moved out to DC a little over a year ago.  This spring was the first opportunity we’ve had to go visit them.  It was a fun week and a great visit.

Matt and Helen have 5 kids and they are a family who loves God and serves him wholeheartedly.  They are a blessing to us and an awesome example of how to train your kids in the ways of the Lord.  I was so encouraged all week as I saw their little 3 year old boy recognize time and again that he was a sinner saved by grace.  He might be a difficult kid to manage now but God has put a passion in his life that by God’s grace will someday turn heavenward!

Although the Lowe household was a busy place; with 3 visits to the dentist for Hudson, a dr. visit to get a new cast for Elliot and a spring concert that Elliot was in, we still managed to hang out and make some great memories.  Matt & Helen challenged Kevin and I to a 2 on 2 volleyball game one night where we all found out just how out of shape we really are! :)  But I think our double date night was my favorite.  It’s not often that we get out without the kids.  So Wednesday night was a special treat, as we hired a babysitter for all 7 kids and went to dinner at the Macaroni Grill.  We had a wonderful evening with great conversation and when we got home, all was silent … well, except Lucas. :)

Kevin and I spent a few days touring downtown DC and even made it to the zoo one day.  We had a blast and were sad to leave.

We love you guys and are so thankful for your friendship! We hope to be able to visit again soon.

THREE & FOUR Month Pics of Lucas

 (1:18 pm) by Erin

Our little Lucas is such a joy and blessing!  It’s always amazing how time flies with little ones around and how quickly they grow!  Despite his annoying skin issues, he is such a happy baby.  In the last few months, he has learned to smile and laugh at anyone who gives him attention.  He loves to lay under his play gym and try to grab the toys hanging in his face.  He’s learned how to grab toys and put them in his mouth and he loves to suck on his fingers.  No paci for this little guy… he loves his hands. :)

Lucas UPDATE

May 6, 2007 (8:40 pm) by Erin

Lucas has had a rouch couple months…. it all started, practicaly to the day, when he turned 3 months old, his skin became dry and cracked and he began ictching all over.  His face/forehead took the brunt of most of his itching.  We figured it was eczema so I always made sure he was “greased” up to keep his skin moist, but after days of applying lotion everytime I changed his diaper and nothing helping we finally took him to the doctor.  She said it was eczema but that he also had a secondary infection on his head.  Needless to say, we left the doctors office with 3 perscriptions and a list of what was needed to help relive him of his discomfort.  Thank God for antibiotics!  Within an hour of giving him his first dose of antibiotic to kill the infection the redness on his head was significantly less!  And after a week, his skin was amazing and practically back to the soft baby skin he was born with.  Although he still has pretty bad craddle cap, we are thankful the rest of his body is much better and fairly eczema/rash free.

Here are some pics of what the poor guy had to deal with:

Easter 2007

 (8:24 pm) by Erin

What a fun Easter this year.  We celebrated for a week! :)  On Palm Sunday, we celebrated with the Smith family and Ethan had an egg hunt at my parents house.  Since he was the only grandkid participating he was able to fill 2 Easter baskets full of eggs!  He loved it!  Next year his little brother will give him some competition.

Then for Easter day we went to Detroit to be with the Vile’s.  Joel was back from Japan so the whole family was in to welcome him home.  And Lucas got to meet his Uncle for the first time! :)  We had lots of fun… tiring, but FUN!
