Chumley’s Visit

Published November 19, 2007 by Erin

We had the pleasure of having the Chumley family come visit us this past week. What a treat! Josh and Jo are friends from college… Jo and I spent a semester in Cambridge, England together and we were in each others weddings. They live in Arizona now so we don’t get to see each other much. Last time we saw each other was at our wedding almost 5 years ago!!! Way too long! They have family in TN so they took a little detour and flew to Detroit to visit some friends in Michigan and then us for a few days and then off to TN for Thanksgiving. Do we feel special or what. :) They have 2 adorable little boys, Jack & Jonas. Jack and Ethan are only a month apart so they had a great time playing together. Jonas is 18 months and just loved to explore everything… soon Lucas will be the same way. It was so nice to visit, catch up and live life together for a few days. Our daily routines are about the same…. kids, kids, kids. :) Kevin had a work retreat he had to be at Wednesday – Friday so he wasn’t home to visit until Friday night. Jo and I did get to have a little girls night out on Thursday though… after we put the kids to bed, Josh stayed home while we could go out… another nice treat.

Friday night we went to the Toledo Zoo’s Lights Before Christmas, which the kids really enjoyed. Saturday was a Holiday Parade downtown Bowling Green and then the BIG OSU vs. Michigan game… GO BUCKS! :) It was a cold couple of days so they got their taste of Ohio cold weather and I’m sure that was enough for them. It was a very nice visit and hopefully it won’t be another 5 years before we see each other again! Thanks for coming out guys! We love you!

Samuel has a new room!!  Well, it’s a shared room, but at least he has a corner now!

I’m not sure our youngest, Samuel, is going to make it to his first birthday. I think our daughter is trying to get rid of him. I think she loves him, she talks to him and about him often. But she has also done things to make us think otherwise. When he is in his swing she likes to push it beyond what it was meant to go. She likes to poke his eyes. She threw his favorite pacifier into the garbage disposal (unknown to Erin until she ran it). She has picked him up and dropped him repeatedly (and tried to pick him up many other times). She has taken his blanket, covered his face with it and laid on him. She has put a marble, a pretzel, a piece of pizza, and other things into his mouth. I’m just not sure if Samuel is going to make it because his older sister is out to get him.

This is Ethan’s way of saying this room is off limits for Alayna. Now every door in our house, even Alayna’s own room, has this sign. Even the outside doors. It’s Alayna’s catch 22 - can’t go in, can’t go out.

We went to the Midwest Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati a couple weeks ago.  It was crowded!! Besides the fact that they scheduled the conference to begin at the exact same time as opening day for the Cincinnati Reds (~10,000 convention goers + ~40,000 baseball fans = no available parking + lots of frustration!) it was a nice trip.  Samuel enjoyed the big bed, Erin and I took the floor. ;)

When your Daring Child is also your Clumsy Child that child will invariably be your Injury-Prone Child.
