Erin’s Space

Published June 4, 2008 by Erin

I’ve finally organized my corner of the house… it’s my sewing / workout corner all in one. :) I love my little corner of the house but it needs some color. This is where you come in… yes, all you people who read our blog but never show your face, or in blog world, never leave a comment. :) I’m asking for your help. I want to paint the cabinet in the corner and I want to paint my sewing chair… any suggestions as to what color??? I’m up for some daring and fun colors. So what do you think? Help me out here. Thanks! (and yes, I know I need a little artwork on the walls and maybe even some window treatments… working on that too but that’s another post :) )

i think you should pick up one of the fun colors in your fabric, like the green or hot pink which would go great w/ the brown walls and blue floor. love the space erin, so fun!!!!

Well, from looking at your room and at the yard through the windows, I would want to pull another earth tone into your room. I would go with a green color. I can’t think of the name of the shade I am thinking of, but a lighter olive green color. Something very soothing that would bring the beauty of nature inside. Since you have so many windows in that room, I think a color like this would compliment your surroundings.

I’m going to go with the crowd on this one…green. But I’d suggest a “lime” green. Hey, you said “daring”, right? :)

I have been thinking more about your room and I still think you should go with a green cabinet. It would be cool if you could strip it to look like older wood. I had a friend help me do a table once and it looked awesome. It was one layer of green on the bottom and a streaked look of lighter green on top. Really cool looking. If you do that, I kind of think you need to go with a red chair. I think that would add a pop of color, but still be sophisticated and probably wouldn’t go out of style as quickly as other bold colors.

First off, I’m so proud of you for being so thrifty! I wish I was crafty and could sew and all that good stuff. Okay, so I think that you should paint the white cabinet a pale green/blue, almost Tiffany blue but softer. I think it would soften the space up and coordinate with your tan walls. The chair – you could do the same color or maybe even white and throw a fun, patterned pillow on it with that same green/blue color in it. Just my thoughts!! Good luck! xo

I love all the comments! We have a lot of great decorators out there. I really think you should take the colors from one of the fabrics that you love. The ironing board cover could be a bright color as well. I would do the chair in hot pink and the cabinet in the lime green. You also have the little boxes on the shelf that could be painted several colors. You also could use a lamp somewhere in that space and that could be a fun color too! I might just have one for you:) The chair pad is another great idea. You have the fabric! Love ya.

That’s so funny … I was thinking “pink & green” before I read all the comments. :)

Samuel has a new room!!  Well, it’s a shared room, but at least he has a corner now!

I’m not sure our youngest, Samuel, is going to make it to his first birthday. I think our daughter is trying to get rid of him. I think she loves him, she talks to him and about him often. But she has also done things to make us think otherwise. When he is in his swing she likes to push it beyond what it was meant to go. She likes to poke his eyes. She threw his favorite pacifier into the garbage disposal (unknown to Erin until she ran it). She has picked him up and dropped him repeatedly (and tried to pick him up many other times). She has taken his blanket, covered his face with it and laid on him. She has put a marble, a pretzel, a piece of pizza, and other things into his mouth. I’m just not sure if Samuel is going to make it because his older sister is out to get him.

This is Ethan’s way of saying this room is off limits for Alayna. Now every door in our house, even Alayna’s own room, has this sign. Even the outside doors. It’s Alayna’s catch 22 - can’t go in, can’t go out.

We went to the Midwest Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati a couple weeks ago.  It was crowded!! Besides the fact that they scheduled the conference to begin at the exact same time as opening day for the Cincinnati Reds (~10,000 convention goers + ~40,000 baseball fans = no available parking + lots of frustration!) it was a nice trip.  Samuel enjoyed the big bed, Erin and I took the floor. ;)
