Alayna Grace

Our sweet baby girl, Alayna Grace made her entrance into this world Friday morning at 3:48 AM. Weighing in at 6 lb. 10 oz. and 20″ long. She has beautiful dark hair and is just perfect. We are all in love! God gave us such a sweet delivery with things ramping up at 11:08 on Thursday evening… after steady contractions for about an hour we called my mom to come stay with the boys while we headed to the hospital. We arrived at Toledo Hospital at 1:00 AM with contractions about 10 minutes apart… the nurses took their sweet time thinking we weren’t really in labor since we managed to keep it together through each contraction. When they finally checked to see how far along I was, they discovered I was 6-7 cm dialated so by 2:00 AM they admitted us and called my doctor, which in turn told them to get things ready… “she’s gonna go fast”. It was great to have my doctor on call (I go to a practice that has about 10 other women doctors so any one of them could have been there that night, so we’re also praising God for that sweet detail). Kevin was an amazing coach as he kept me focused during the hardest part of labor and was amazing at encouraging me to keep going! What an awesome experience that has certainly drawn us even closer. If it weren’t for him, I know I would not have been able to go completely drug free. After about 45 minutes (although seeming alot longer) of crazy intense contractions, it was time too push and with about 3 pushes our sweet baby girl made her apperance and it was love at first site! The emotion that came over me when the nurses immediately placed her in my arms was just overwhelming… even though I’ve experienced this great joy twice before, it’s still such an overwhelming feeling and the most beautiful thing ever…. what a true miracle! We are certainly praising God for the sweet blessing of a quick and safe delivery and a precious baby girl.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our first few days with her in the hospital and with each other… and as we journeyed home today we are looking forward to sweet days ahead with baby Alayna. This little one will certainly not be lacking in the love department! She is already adored by all in the Vile household. :)

Samuel has a new room!!  Well, it’s a shared room, but at least he has a corner now!

I’m not sure our youngest, Samuel, is going to make it to his first birthday. I think our daughter is trying to get rid of him. I think she loves him, she talks to him and about him often. But she has also done things to make us think otherwise. When he is in his swing she likes to push it beyond what it was meant to go. She likes to poke his eyes. She threw his favorite pacifier into the garbage disposal (unknown to Erin until she ran it). She has picked him up and dropped him repeatedly (and tried to pick him up many other times). She has taken his blanket, covered his face with it and laid on him. She has put a marble, a pretzel, a piece of pizza, and other things into his mouth. I’m just not sure if Samuel is going to make it because his older sister is out to get him.

This is Ethan’s way of saying this room is off limits for Alayna. Now every door in our house, even Alayna’s own room, has this sign. Even the outside doors. It’s Alayna’s catch 22 - can’t go in, can’t go out.

We went to the Midwest Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati a couple weeks ago.  It was crowded!! Besides the fact that they scheduled the conference to begin at the exact same time as opening day for the Cincinnati Reds (~10,000 convention goers + ~40,000 baseball fans = no available parking + lots of frustration!) it was a nice trip.  Samuel enjoyed the big bed, Erin and I took the floor. ;)
