Assessing the Doctor’s Assessing or Don’t Ask Dumb Questions.

By Kevin | Published August 23, 2011

A trip to the doctor’s office, as any parent of young children knows, is an interesting adventure to say the least. Today was Alayna’s two-year appointment and a medical student did her assessment. You know, the part where they ask you questions from a list to see if your kid is normal. Don’t they know [...]

If we didn’t know it before…

By Kevin | Published July 18, 2011

we know it now. We’re in trouble. Today the children were leaving (with Mom) for swimming lessons. They were all packed into the mini-van with the essentials (towels, goggles, matchbox cars, drinks, snacks, sunglasses, hats, … you get the picture). I poked my head in to say good-bye and wish them all a fun time [...]

Crime and Punishment

By Kevin | Published June 29, 2011

We’ve recently started sending our almost two year old to the corner for screaming. She screams… a lot. Today, Erin told her to stop screaming and she screamed one last time and then walked right to the corner. I’m not sure if that’s helping or not, but at least she knows the penalty for her [...]

Spaghetti, Spoons, and Schizophrenia or A Dinner With the Viles

By Kevin | Published June 9, 2011

Okay, so indulge me as I explain how part of a typical dinner goes at the Vile household. Tonight at dinner Alayna was eating beans. Fistfuls of beans were flying down her throat, literally. When she hit the bottom of the bowl, we encouraged her to move on to her spaghetti. She requested a spoon, [...]

Samuel has a new room!!  Well, it’s a shared room, but at least he has a corner now!

I’m not sure our youngest, Samuel, is going to make it to his first birthday. I think our daughter is trying to get rid of him. I think she loves him, she talks to him and about him often. But she has also done things to make us think otherwise. When he is in his swing she likes to push it beyond what it was meant to go. She likes to poke his eyes. She threw his favorite pacifier into the garbage disposal (unknown to Erin until she ran it). She has picked him up and dropped him repeatedly (and tried to pick him up many other times). She has taken his blanket, covered his face with it and laid on him. She has put a marble, a pretzel, a piece of pizza, and other things into his mouth. I’m just not sure if Samuel is going to make it because his older sister is out to get him.
