Trust
Standing at the crossroads of his life, the young man felt the weight of the impending decision so soon upon him. No longer could he hide from its searching eyes; he could not run from its ever-reaching hand. The dreaded day was here for the decision had found him out; it had caught its prey in its tight grasp and the young man could no longer escape. Although the time for the decision was upon him, the answer still eluded his mind. Which direction should he take? Looking down one road he saw hardness and much difficulty, the other road seemed smooth and easy. One might think that decision should be rather simple to make, but the young man had further insight concerning those paths. For beyond the difficulty and hardness of the first road was the deepest joy and fullness one could ever desire and beyond the easy and smooth road was discontentment.
The young man knew he must face the difficulties before obtaining the true joy and with great strain took a step down the first path. With the weight of his foot freshly touching the ground a wave of new thoughts pierced his mind he had not anticipated. Doubt, indecision, and uncertainty overwhelmed him and he was instantly paralyzed. What did it mean to choose a life of difficulty? How would that play out as he took further steps? Where was the location that his foot should next be placed?
These gripping thoughts impeded his progress for sometime, when at last he understood that he will never have all the answers. He must move ahead with one foot in front of the other not knowing what would come with its pressing weight upon the ground. It was a road that was paved with uncertainty, but he found that as he placed one more foot upon it, the uncertainty very slowly changed to simple trust. He knew his decision was correct, but did not know the entire way. He would have to move forward anyways and learn what it meant to trust….
