Theological Summit at Winebrenner
Last night was Winebrenner Seminary’s Theological Summit. It is a one day (8 hour) school wide class that concerns itself with a particular yearly topic. This year’s topic is the kingdom of God. There is one summit each semester, so this was the second summit this year. Both dealt with various aspects of the yearly theme. This semester we had multiple short lectures on metaphors of the kingdom of God (peace of God, community of God, team of God, banquet feast of God, etc.) given by each of the faculty.
We also heard from two students (I was given the honor as one of those students) give a short presentation from their final project (a paper and teaching/preaching outline) from our hermeneutics class. The final project was to take the hermeneutical process on a short passage and show its relation to the kingdom of God. My passage was Romans 14:13-17, you can read my hermeneutics paper posted under the Papers section. The other student presented Revelation 12:10-12.
After that we viewed a film entitled “Second Chance” debuting Michael W. Smith’s first major role in a film. We discussed what the film was saying in small groups. I won’t give a full review of the film here (I’ll leave that for later reflection), but suffice to say that it had good content that made you think about life in the kingdom of God and what that should look like.
It was a long and exhausting event, but highly beneficial. I will be writing a 3-5 page reflection paper on this event. You can view my theological summit reflection paper on last semester’s summit posted under the Papers section. I’ll be posting this year’s reflection once I finish writing it!
