Humility

When you think you have humility, you probably do not. A humble person does not care if he is viewed as humble or not, the thought is beyond humility. That person can only be called humble by another who is not being prompted to do so.
Why do we fight and quarrel? Because we want something and do not have it! To be humble means that we must give up fighting and quarreling for what I want. We must sacrifice. We must die to ourselves.

Am I willing to live life without something I feel is my right to have? Am I willing to do the things that no one else will do? Am I willing to relenquish my own agenda and become a servant? Was this not the example of Jesus?
But this requires trust. I might get trampled. My needs might not be met. I might not have a say in how things are run. I might be left to pick up everyone else’s mess. I might not have what I want. Where will my joy come from?  Who will meet my needs? Who is my vanquisher? Who will lift me up? Who will set the wrong right? God alone. That means I must trust him and not worry about my life. If I try to save my life, I will lose it. I only gain life when I lose it.
I find that when I think I am humble, I am not. If I ask myself whether or not my actions are humble in this situation, then they probably are not. I have yet to trust God in that area. Humility comes when I become less and Jesus becomes more. My faith is increased.

Do we want humility? Then, let us trust God and think nothing of our lives. As a community of believers, as followers of Christ, let us pray together…

Jesus, we believe, help our unbelief. Jesus, become more so we will be less.
