To Write an Exegesis Paper

If any of you have ever written an exegesis paper, then you will know my struggles. I have two to write this semester! One is for my Greek Exegesis course, the other for my Narrative Criticism course. I am writing on John 6: 25-40 and Mark 5:1-20 (I’ve posted little snippets of articles on Mark, you can see them here). It takes a lot of effort and a lot of time, but it is well worth it. Diving into Scriptures in such a deep way is exhausting and refreshing at the same time. It’s amazing to see the depth of the Scriptures and the creativity of the authors.

Still, two papers at the same time is quite a bit of work. So needless to say, I’ve been extremely busy the past few weeks, and I’ve got two weeks left to go! The seminary library has become my newest friend… another amazing thing is the amount of scholarship done on those two books alone. Piles and piles of books have been written and it’s too much to go through all of it on such a small paper (25 pages!). Anyways… once I’ve finished I’ll post them up to get some thoughts.

Here some of my works:
A Narrative Criticism class paper on Mark 5:1-20.
A Greek Exegesis class paper on John 6:25-40.

Here’s a couple helpful books for the process:
A Beginner’s Guide to New Testament Exegesis: Taking the Fear Out of Critical Method By Richard J. Erickson
New Testament Exegesis: A Handbook for Students and Pastors (3rd Edition) By Gordon D. Fee
